Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to volunteer at my first ever motorsports event - the Supercars Sydney 500. As part of the events team, I assisted in the sign ons, meal runs and resolving any issues the race team encountered. I was also invited to join and assist the media centre during the race weekend. As a university student studying Communications and Media at Western Sydney University it was an honor being welcomed and encouraged to sit in during the drivers and teams press conferences each night. On the Friday, I was invited to have a tour of the Triple Eight Race Engineering garage! It was a great opportunity to see the race cars up close and learn what happens behind the scenes of a championship winning team. - LinkedIn
In early May, I was accepted as a volunteer for the Shannons Insurance SpeedSeries Championship at SMSP. Along with the GT World Challenge and many other competitions, I assisted with the volunteer sign-ons, race scrutineers and more tasks with these roles. On the second night of the round, I was able to experience and assist the recovery team during the Porsche Cup. It was an honour to watch and be apart of the great work everyone does to check on the drivers and get the green flags flying again. - LinkedIn
This past weekend, I had the honour of being a Race Secretary Assistant for the NSW SuperSprint Series Championship at SMSP. I took on the task of helping relay messages to the volunteers, checking in drivers and collecting and forms required for the Race Secretary. Also, I was invited to experience the work done by the team in timing. Seeing the work that gets done behind the scenes for a smooth race is eye opening and a great way to see the different skills needed for motorsports. - LinkedIn
